Maybe I would do better if I gave myself the goal of posting once a month rather than every week, that's a goal that's more attainable at the present. I know when I posted in September, I said that our garden would be off and running soon; little did I know, two chicken snakes would be killed IN the garden since then and a rattlesnake would be found in the parking lot. Needless to say, our garden project was put on the back burner until the coolness of fall really begins. Snakes and I do NOT get along. Have no fear though, we WILL be planting. Your generous donations will not go unused!
Parent conferences are next week Wednesday and Thursday. This truly is one of my favorite times of the year because I haven't seen most of you since meet the teacher night and it's important for me to keep our lines of communication up and going strong. Please remember to sign up for a time slot if you have not already done so.
This week, students will take a math benchmark. It looks a bit different this year, it's over things that have already been taught as opposed to things that they will learn by the end of the year. This test will give us an accurate result of where your child is in their learning this year. It will serve us so much more if there are concepts that must be retaught.
As always, my door (and our classroom) is always open, so please drop me an email, a phone call or drop by!
Enjoy your week!

Science and Such
I'm still new to this whole "blogging" thing and I guess, since honesty is the best policy, I haven't built time in to my routine to post here as often as I'd like. I will get better!
Our class will be starting our garden in the next two weeks, I'm so excited about this project! We will be planting herbs, vegetables and flowers - we'll be eating the veggies and using the flowers for projects or just to brighten up our classroom. I can't wait!
In class, we have been learning about the properties of matter - particularly - conduction, magenetism, and luster. While learning about these, we built circuits to find out if the material in question was an insulator or conductor. He's a little something you can try at home to reinforce this skill:

Welcome to the 2010 - 2011 School Year!
Dear Parents and Students,
As summer comes to an end, excitement fills the air! As you all prepare for the upcoming school year, I find myself marveling at the thought of beginning my new adventure...my 5th grade experience! This will be my third year at Ray Elementary and my first in 5th grade - I am anxious to see familiar faces AND excited to meet new friends/families. I am looking forward to meeting with you all and planning for a positive learning experience.
Outside of the classroom, I stay busy with my "full house" - my husband, daughter, Chloe and Ruger (our labs) and Bogey (our cat). I am an Aggie fan (though I went to Texas State University) and proud of it, but I will still root on the Longhorns in any game (unless
they're playing A&M)! We have made Hutto our home, so if you see us out and about, please be sure to stop me and say hello!
I look forward to meeting with you throughout the year. Should questions or concerns arise, please feel free to give me a call or email me. Additionally, I welcome all comments or suggestions to help provide a more positive learning experience for all.
Looking forward to meeting with you all!

Mrs. Fulp
